Fredløs is a project that seeks to express and explore the tender and the vulnerable through sonic landscapes of distorted guitars, thunderous drums and soul-baring screams.
An attempt to tread the fine line between delicate soundscapes of fragile string arrangements, dreamlike choirs and spoken-word poetry, and an explosive surrender to the existential pain and grief from which the songs are born.
On her first release under the Fredløs moniker, Amira Liv Hernan explores grief and love through four deeply personal and disarmingly honest letters of farewell, examining the transformative and fundamental ways in which they shape us, both as individuals and as communities. This album is a celebration of what has been lost, and of all those whose hands have carried us, even as their traces are slowly lost to time. A devoted embrace of what has been cast aside, and of all that we must allow to wither in order to bloom anew. The aim of this release has been to create a space in which the listener can process pain and joy in equal measure. A queer perspective on love, intimacy and extreme music within a deeply heteronormative and male-dominated cultural landscape.
Fredløs is extreme in every dimension it inhabits. Extremely tender. Extremely honest. Extremely gentle. Extremely brutal. Extremely ecstatic. Extremely embracing. And extremely searching.
